Healthcare Summit to Feature Regional Provider CEO's from Atrium, Iredell Health System, and Novant

The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce will host a Regional Healthcare Summit featuring the Executives of Atrium Health University City, Iredell County Health, and Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. The event will take place Tuesday, July 11, from 11:45 am to 1:30 pm at Northstone Country Club located at 15801 Northstone Drive in Huntersville.

The event features William H. “Bill” Leonard – President, Atrium Health University City; John G. Green, President CEO of Iredell Health System; and Michael Preston Riley – President, Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. Presented by I77 Express, the Summit will be emceed by 2023 Lake Norman Chamber Public Policy Chair Jeff Tarte.

Bill Russell, President & CEO of the Lake Norman Chamber states, “Perhaps no single bigger human resource issue faces our small and corporate business community, than the cost of healthcare for our employees. The purpose of this summit is to allow those who attend access to our regional healthcare provider CEO’s to ask questions about this critical topic.” While the chamber has preset questions, attendees will be encouraged to engage in an interactive discussion.

William H. "Bill" Leonard - President of Atrium Health University City


William H. "Bill" Leonard is President of Atrium Health University City, a full-service acute care hospital which includes Atrium Health Huntersville. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Bill received his A.B. in Economics from UNC-Chapel Hill and his M.H.A. from Duke University. He has served as president of 4 hospitals and held numerous health care leadership roles beginning in the last millennium.  

Leonard is active in the community and currently serves on the boards of University City Partners, MeckEd and is the co -founder of “Strokes for Spokes” wheelchair tennis event in support of Atrium Health Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program. He and his wife Helen and their two daughters live, work and play in Charlotte. He is a member of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.


John G. Green, President & CEO - Iredell Health System

John Green has a BS degree in Physical Therapy from Marquette University, and an MBA in Management from the University of Akron. He began his career as a licensed physical therapist, working in multiple states, and eventually progressing into the role of Assistant Vice President of Physician Management and Rehabilitation at St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh.

John moved to North Carolina in 2000 to become the Vice President of Operations at Iredell Health System, overseeing a number of departments, including building operations, risk management, medical staff credentialing, and quality and clinical outcomes. In 2008, he became Vice President of Professional Services and Facility Planning, where he was additionally responsible for researching land options and negotiating the purchase and development of the Mooresville expansion project. In 2018, John was appointed to the new position of Chief Operating Officer, prior to becoming President and CEO in June 2019. He is only the fifth person to serve in that role since Iredell’s opening in 1954.

John resides in Statesville with his wife, Patti, and they have two grown children. He has served on numerous Boards throughout Iredell County and the state of North Carolina. He is currently serving on the North Carolina Hospital Enterprises Workers’ Compensation Fund Board, the North Carolina Hospital Association’s Board of Directors, and serves as Chair of the North Carolina Hospital Association’s HOSPAC Board. 

Michael Preston Riley - President & COO – Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center

Mike Riley joined Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center in July 2015 as the Present & Chief Operating Officer. Mike has served several leadership roles with Novant Health. Prior to his current role, Mr. Riley served as the President of Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital and Musculoskeletal Service Line leader for the Greater Charlotte Market. Mike began his career with Novant Health in 1999 as a cardiac staff nurse.

Mr. Riley holds the following degrees:  Master of Business Administration and Master of Healthcare Administration from Pfeiffer University, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Wake Technical Community College, and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in English from North Carolina State University.  While at North Carolina State University, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Mr. Riley is a 2012 Leadership Novant graduate, a 2013 Leadership Development Initiative (LDI) graduate and a 2016 Leadership Lake Norman graduate. Mr. Riley is a member of the Board of Directors for the Harvey B. Gantt Center and the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Riley and his wife Wendy reside in Waxhaw with their four children – Corrie 20, Julia 15, Jordan 15 and Jack 13. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and coaching youth teams.
