Senator Vickie Sawyer and Representative Beth Helfrich shares their insight on the 2025 Long Session

This month’s Focus Friday will feature North Carolina Senator Vickie Sawyer – Republican District #37 and Representative Beth Helfrich – Democrat District #98. The program will be held Friday, January 17th from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the Lake Norman Chamber 19900 West Catawba Avenue in Cornelius. This is an in-person meeting and is LIMITED to the first 35 Chamber Members who register. It will also be available via Zoom by calling Brett Hicks at 704-892-1922 or emailing Hicks@lakenormanchamber.org

Vickie Sawyer was first elected to the North Carolina Senate in 2018. Senator Sawyer represents the 37th district, which includes Iredell County, the Town of Cornelius, and northern Huntersville. Her mission as a senator is to craft legislation that allows the citizens of her district the opportunity to realize the American Dream -- as she has. Vickie has taken the lead on a variety of issues important to her district, including transportation infrastructure, raising the age of child marriage in NC, and protecting schools and parents from the financial fleecing of high school athletics by its governing organization.

Beth Helfrich serves District 98 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. After nearly two decades working in schools as a teacher, administrator, and PTO president, Beth now operates her own writing and editing company. A native of District 98, she is a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and Davidson College. Beth lives in Davidson with her husband, Tim, and their five children.

Both will be speaking to legislation which is expected to come before the General Assembly this year.

Pat Jackson, 2025 Chamber Public Policy Chair, will emcee the program.

Focus Friday is a public policy program of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce which examines community and legislative issues from multiple perspectives. While intended for Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce members and community leaders, guests are welcome but MUST RSVP with the Chamber in advance.

The program is presented by Novant Health - Huntersville Medical Center and sponsored by Business Today and WSIC 105.9 FM.
