Congressman Tim Moore Highlights Tax Relief, Disaster Recovery, Housing Affordability, and Bipartisan Optimism on Lake Norman Chamber’s Focus Friday

October Focus Friday - Friday, October 17, 2025

Cornelius, N.C. — October 20, 2025 — The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce hosted United States Congressman Tim Moore on its Focus Friday program, where the Congressman outlined recent legislative priorities and updates impacting North Carolina families, businesses, and veterans.

Moore began by pointing to federal tax policy as a top-line achievement this session, highlighting an extension of provisions he said were central to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and the recently passed Working Families Tax Relief package. He emphasized efforts to “reduce the amount of money that government is taking from folks when they work,” citing relief measures for working families and small businesses.

Turning to Hurricane Helene recovery, Moore reported substantial progress in restoring water and wastewater systems, repairing roads and bridges, and assisting hard-hit communities such as Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. He encouraged residents and companies to support the mountain economy during leaf season: “Our mountains are resilient; they’re coming back.”

On the federal government shutdown, Moore voiced strong support for a clean continuing resolution (CR) to keep operations funded, warning of ripple effects ranging from SNAP benefits to FDA approvals and unpaid federal workers. He called shutdowns a poor negotiating tool and urged a rules-based approach that keeps government functioning while broader budget debates continue.

Discussing the broader economy, Moore noted moderating inflation, steady employment, and improving GDP. He credited tariffs for motivating certain manufacturers to on-shore jobs in the region and reiterated a firm stance on China, calling it America’s “greatest external threat,” while advocating deeper trade ties across the Western Hemisphere.

Addressing housing affordability, Moore called the shortage a “coming tsunami,” particularly for first-time buyers. He outlined concepts under review, including down-payment assistance mechanisms, secondary/subordinate loans, and regulatory updates through HUD and the Housing Finance Agency to expand access to homeownership.

Moore also touched on artificial intelligence (AI)—praising its promise for productivity and services while underscoring the need for adequate energy capacity (including next-generation nuclear and grid upgrades) to power data centers and advanced computing.

In constituent services, Moore highlighted the district office presence—including a site at Cornelius Town Hall—and assistance with passports, VA benefits, Medicare, and Social Security. He reaffirmed support for veterans, noting North Carolina’s tax-free treatment of military retirement income and a personal commitment to expand veteran services in the region.

Despite partisan tensions, Moore expressed optimism about bipartisan relationships and America’s global posture, crediting “peace through strength” initiatives and the dedication of colleagues across the aisle.
