Description

Join the Town of Cornelius Parks & Recreation Department and American Legion Post 86 on Monday, May 29, as we honor our nation's servicemen and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The Memorial Day Program will take place at 10 a.m. on the lawn across from the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza, 21445 Catawba Avenue. American Legion Post 86 Commander Randy Wally will lead a ceremony including Major Cory Jones, United States Marine Corps, as the keynote speaker, patriotic music performed by the W.A. Hough High School Singers and Cornelius Youth Orchestras, a 21-Gun Salute, and posting and retirement of colors by Hough High School and Hopewell High School JROTC. This event is suitable for all ages. Chairs will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will be held rain or shine. Should there be inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors into Cornelius Town Hall. Following the ceremony (approximately 11 a.m.), attendees will be invited to head across the street to the Cain Center for the Arts for light refreshments, courtesy of the Exchange Club of North Mecklenburg and Fresh Chef. Then, at approximately 11:40 a.m., we will show the movie Devotion (PG-13) in the Cain Center theatre. For more information, visit www.cornelius.org/pr or call Mike Wolf at 704.892.6031 x192.
